This stamp features George Szell, music director of The Cleveland Orchestra from 1946 to 1970. The Postal Service released this stamp as part of their Legends of American Music Series, which began in 1993. The series also honored conductors Leopold Stokowski, Eugene Ormandy, and Arthur Fiedler and composers Samuel Barber, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Ferde Grofe, and Charles Ives.
